The Anticipation Surrounding the Release of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer
For several months now, Marvel enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Scheduled to hit theaters at the end of July, expectations were high for an earlier launch of its promotional campaign, especially given that some leaks of the trailer appeared online back in December 2025. These leaks fueled speculation that the trailer's debut was just around the corner. However, here we are in February 2026, and there’s still no sign of it.
This prolonged wait sharply contrasts with Marvel's marketing strategy for Avengers: Doomsday, which, despite being set for release in December, has already rolled out not one, not two, but four teaser trailers. Each of these teasers was shown exclusively in cinemas for a week, attached to screenings of Avatar: Fire & Ash, before they were made available online. So, what is causing the delay for the Brand New Day trailer, when can we expect it to be released, and what about its potential appearance during the Super Bowl?
Why Is the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Not Premiering During the Super Bowl?
As time passed and it became apparent that the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer wasn't going to drop, fans turned their hopes toward the Super Bowl—a massive event where releasing movie trailers is part of the festivities and offers one of the largest captive audiences imaginable for marketers. Surprisingly, reports indicate that a Brand New Day trailer will not be featured during Super Bowl 2026, nor will there be one for Avengers: Doomsday.
While this news may disappoint many (unless there’s a surprising last-minute change), it shouldn’t really come as a shock. The cost of advertising during the Super Bowl is astronomical, with reports stating that one spot is priced at a staggering $10 million this year. Given that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is virtually assured of being a blockbuster success, one has to wonder if such an expense is truly justified.
Sony seems to believe it isn’t necessary, and this aligns with its overall strategy regarding the big game. The studio tends to skip advertising during the Super Bowl, having only released major trailers for films like 65 (2023) and Life (2017) in the past decade—neither of which truly warranted such a financial investment. The last time a Spider-Man film had a Super Bowl spot was for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so it stands to reason that they wouldn’t opt for one this time around either.
Even though the trailer won’t debut during the Super Bowl, it is reasonable to expect that the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer could be released soon. In fact, one possibility is that it might drop shortly after the Super Bowl. Sony Pictures Releasing, the film’s distributor, has its animated sports film Goat premiering on February 13th, which is its most significant release until Brand New Day arrives. If Sony aims to enhance the visibility of its own film—something studios often do around trailer releases—and capitalize on the excitement from a long holiday weekend (with Valentine's Day followed by President's Day), then it would make sense to launch the trailer in the week following the Super Bowl, when it could capture attention all to itself.
Beyond this scenario, predicting the exact timing becomes more challenging. They might consider unveiling it ahead of Pixar’s upcoming film Hoppers, which is set to release on March 6th. Another potential competitor is Project Hail Mary, anticipated to receive rave reviews, which debuts later in March (on the 20th). Alternatively, if the release is pushed to April, there’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, likely to achieve over $1 billion in box office earnings, providing a substantial audience for the trailer. Nonetheless, regardless of when it drops, a Spider-Man movie trailer is always an event in its own right.
In past years, both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home had released their initial trailers by this point, with the former dropping in December before its release and the latter appearing in mid-January. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home took a different approach, leveraging the anticipation surrounding its trailer to its advantage, particularly since the returns of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were largely regarded as open secrets. Its first trailer was launched in August 2021, ahead of its December release.
This strategy clearly paid off, as the film grossed an impressive $1.9 billion, shedding light on why Sony is choosing to be patient and letting the demand for the trailer build. There was a span of 116 days between the trailer's release and the movie premiere, and if they were to stick closely to that timeline, it would suggest a trailer drop around April 6th, 2026. With the Mario film set to release on April 1st, could Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s trailer potentially be unveiled on April Fool’s Day? That would be quite a bold move, and undeniably humorous.
Mark your calendars: Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31st, 2026.
